This years’ Ohio Radiological Nurses Association Spring Event on April 6th marked the 30th year of the chapter. Held at the University Hospitals of Cleveland Rainbow Amphitheater; it was an educationally rich day, attended by physicians, nurses and technologists from across northeast Ohio.
The day started with a continental breakfast and catching up with old friends. President John Shrewsbury RN BSN shared an overview of the day and highlights from the recent Sir/ARIN conference. The exciting announcement of the return of the ARIN Fall Education conference in Columbus on September 26-29 was shared along with the joint Radiology/ORNA Fall education conference to be held November 2nd.
The day had an exciting list of speakers. Dr. Jon Davidson, MD opened the conference with a discussion of “Anticoagulation Updates for the IR Team”. The anticipation was evident in the group as they look forward to the new guideline release from SIR. In addition, Dr Davidson shared information on the state of IR in China. This was from his recent SIR sponsored trip. Both presentations were informative and well received by the group.
Dr. John Haaga, MD continued the day with a “Historical Discussion of Previous/Current Arteriogenesis Theory”. Current accepted theory was discussed. Dr Haaga shared cutting edge research and the impact on current theory. From the presentation, it is possible that todays accepted theories may change in the near future.
Dr. Nami Azar, MD was the third speaker of the day with a cutting-edge presentation on the use of “Contrast in Ultrasound”. Relatively new in radiology, the use of U/S contrast is expanding since you do not have to worry about kidney excretion. Composed of Microbubbles, they are not filtered in the lungs since they are equivalent in size to red blood cells. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound can be used to image blood perfusion in organs, measure blood flow rate in the heart and other organs, and for other applications.
The day concluded with Martina Blaho, RN, Medtronic Senior educator, with an overview of Capnography. A toolkit for use with capnography was shared. Helpful hints from the audience were shared including the ARIN position statement and Medtronic education site with contact hour presentations.
The day ended with the annual drawing for door prizes. This year all attendees were presented with a 30th Anniversary souvenir mug. Filled with candy, it made a great end to a fun day. ORNA would like to thank all of our valued sponsors and vendors. We hope to see you at our fall event.
